De La Hoya vs. Hopkins

It's 6:55 pm. I bought The Fight friends are coming over. De La Hoya moves way up in weight class from his early days. Can he really hang with Bernard Hopkins the ruler of the middleweight class?

Bernard is unbeaten in 24 fights - 22-0-1, 1 No Contest, dating back to August, 1993. His last loss was by decision against Roy Jones Jr. in May, 1993. His only other loss was in his pro debut in 1988.

Hmm...I don't think so. But Oscar has lots of heart and fights hard.

Could be a good one. It'll be on HBO sometime soon. I'll tell you if it is worth your time.

Probably will be.

Update 9:45

Well it was worth seeing, but not a great fight.

Hopkins won. He started out slow. Oscar fought well, but after the 7th round Hopkins started to land some big punches. He hit Oscar in the 9th with a shot on the liver, on Oscar's right side and De La Hoya just folded to the mat. He had the wind knocked out of him and that was it. He couldn't get up and stayed on the mat for a bit. He looked like he might be holding back tears and pounded his fists in frustration. When he did get up he yelled "F**K".

Hopkins continues to be the best middleweight by far. But Oscar fought well early, and I don't think he lost anyones respect having moved up to this weight class and fighting a champ like Hopkins. Neither boxer mentioned retirement, but Hopkins said he didn't want to fight past his 40th birthday in Jan. So maybe there is one more big payday for him.

Hopkins vs. Jones Jr.? Wow that would be cool.
