The setup I am using is an Intel MacBook and a phone call out using Skype to Troy at ESPN. But I have improved it some.
For audio input I am using a good Shure mic into a Mackie mixer with the bottom and top end eq's bumped up a little bit. The main outs of that feed into a DBX compressor, them that feeds to an M Audio box to make it USB friendly and get into my Mac. I set the audio inputs to the M Audio device, and launch Skype and record the call with a Ecamm's Call Recorder.
After the call I split the call into 2 separate files, left and right. Then I open those with Quicktime and save them as 2 mono files. I do the final mix in Garageband, adding 2 mono voice tracks and a music bed. I edit as needed, adjust the levels, and save as an mp3.
