WASHINGTON - An influential senator has asked the Federal Communications Commission to examine the practice by some TV and radio stations of demanding payments or other actions in exchange for time on supposedly independent programs.



Arizona Republican John McCain said he wants to stop broadcasters who "deceive viewers through 'sham' television programs such as 'Daytime,' '' a morning lifestyle and entertainment show on WFLA, Channel 8, in Tampa.
