CBS Radio plus Entercom in SF/SJ is over by 4 FMs

The Entercom and CBS radio merger should be complete by the end of the year. In the San Francisco/San Jose market that will put the ownership over the limit by 4 FMs. Some stations will have to be sold or put in a trust while they are waiting to be sold and will not be part of the new Entercom.

The FCC rules state in a radio market with 45 or more stations, an entity may own up to eight radio stations, no more than five of which may be in the same service (AM or FM)

Here is a graphic of the recent ratings from All Access with both ownership groups highlighted. Ratings aren't everything especially these 6+ ratings that don't show how well stations do in their demo. This is all the public is allowed to see.

Cume (The total number of different persons who tune to a radio station during the course of a daypart for at least five minutes) and of course revenue and costs have a big say on what stations make the cut. See the 6+ cume at the All Access link

Don't forget the format and the station are different. The new Entercom might want to keep a good FM signal in the mix and change or tweak the format that is on the air.

It will all probably be announced soon.

Good luck to all my radio friends!

YES! Does San Jose deserve a Top 3 ranking as best place to live?

I love that US News and World Report put San Jose at number 3 in best places to live in the USA. Not Silicon Valley but the city of San Jose. It is behind number 1 Austin Tx, and number 2 Denver Co. Sal Pizarro has more in the Merc.

At my previous full time radio job I got to know San Jose extremely well. I did a daily calendar for San Jose and South Bay events. (it took a lot of work!)

I loved doing remote shows from there. In fact I lobbied to have a remote every Friday in the summer from San Pedro Square Market. It didn't happen. Most radio PD's don't like remotes but mine did.

The weather is great, the outdoor activities are varied and from the 49ers just outside of town in Santa Clara to the Sharks and Earthquakes and the San Jose Giants you can see a lot of sports as well as NCAA events and games. Going to a San Jose Giants game on a warm summer night is really fun. It's affordable and easy to do. There are lots of kids and families out having fun. What's not to like about that?!

I love the cultures and diversity. There all represent with great food and year round events. There is an art scene, a music scene (could be bigger) and people from bikers to techies to students to young and old seem to really get along well. San Jose is all little old and a little new all in the right amount.

Things are easier to do and it is easier to get to them. It can be really upscale and fancy or it can be just having coffee outside with friends, a dog, and some warm weather. From Midnight Movies to VietNam Tet Festival, a fun flea market, farmer's market, parks, and the Tech Museum, you get to experience a lot of things.

Lots of music and shows come to SAP and Shoreline - not too far away.

It is close to a lot of things but if you never leave the city limits you will do just fine.

The airport is easy to use and not that crowded.

You can live in a quiet area of town and be somewhere to do something fun pretty quick (outside of commute hours)

It's bigger than San Francisco and I think much better. I'd live in San Jose for sure.
