He feared for the safety of relatives who still live in Baghdad. An hour into the intense bombing, Mekha's wife received a call from her uncle in Baghdad.
"He said they're in a bad situation," Mekha, 35, said. "I feel very bad for them. I pray for them."
Like many Christian Iraqis who live in Las Vegas, Mekha believes war is the only way to oust a regime that has suppressed, tortured and robbed its citizens of their freedom. Christians in particular are mistreated, he said.
"I will celebrate the day Saddam Hussein dies," said Ramzi Suliman, a 42-year-old Las Vegas store owner who fled Iraq on June 23, 1982. "I always thought I would die before Saddam. If I see him die, I don't care if I die after that.
