We're playing Winwood's new CD on KFOG. It is really good but you know it doesn't fit on the airwaves of most radio stations these days. It has a great cover of the 70's soul hit "Why Can't We Live Together" by Timmy Thomas. Steve plays a mean Hammond organ. If you get a chance to see him live check it out.
Yahoo! News - Concert Review: Steve Winwood
By Erik Pedersen
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - The players were in close quarters onstage Thursday, as if jamming in someone's living room. Considering all the smiles and informality, they might have been.
Steve Winwood and his ace band rumbled the Wiltern's art deco rafters with a long, loud show that left the crowd yelling for more. This was no nostalgia act, though the bounteous set covered nearly four decades of material. Rather, it was a joyous celebration of consonance and camaraderie that blended genres and satisfied beyond expectations.
Seated at a Hammond B-3 and playing bass parts with his feet, Winwood sang standards from the Spencer Davis Group, Traffic and his solo work. The years have taken some of the edge off his voice, but it remains one of rock's most distinctive -- resonant, animated and caked in soul. Still, it was the music that mattered this night.
