When Comics Write Press Releases for Air America

The new liberal talk network Air America got taken off the air by radio station owner Arthur Liu. He owns the stations in LA and Chicago that aired Air America. It's a money thing.

Seems like Air America paid Liu for airtime to broadcast on his stations in the month of Febuary but they didn't start to broadcast until March. Since AA didn't have anything to run Liu, so the story goes, sold the airtime to somebody else until AA did. Now AA wants credit for the time bought applied to this month.

The courts have to settle this.

Below is some of the text of what was first posted by Air America on their website in response to the issue.

Threats (kidding!), publishing a phone number and urging people to call (I *'d it out), puns on an ethnic name, more threats (kidding!). Man what horse shit AA. To their credit they took it down but you read it all at one of these links.

The comedy concept is it makes fun not just of Arthur Liu but Matt Drudge. It is called "The Sludge Report". Whatever. It is a shame those in charge of AA let this happen.

AA I would really love to have more voices and viewpoints on the air, but please respect radio and your listeners. You are a real easy target to those that don't want to take you seriously. Too easy. Give your audience some credit for being smart and don't treat everything and everybody like a comedy bit in progress.

I read something like this below and think of the Larry Sanders Show and the grumpy group of comedy writers eating Chinese food writing acidic jokes in the break room. That was funny. This is embarrassing.

Here is part of what was posted on the Air America website:

"But Arthur Liu --- not funny. He lied to us, he ripped us off and now we're chasing him down with a pipe wrench. It's a metaphor.

So we got screwed, Liu'd, and tattooed. How Liu can you get? In Liu of payment. Liu'd and lascivious behavior. These write themselves. What we're getting at is that we hate him.

Air America Radio isn't dead, we're in court and we're going to slam Liu's head in a car door. Another metaphor. We hope to be back on the air tomorrow or the next day in those markets. In the meantime, why don't you give Arthur a call at (212)***-****. Arthur Liu, I wouldn't show your face around here."

AA you started out good but now your respect gas tank is on empty with me. It'll take a long time to fill it up.
