Police Ride weekend

Sacramento Police and Sheriff memorial ride 2004

Saturday am left Sacramento with about 10 friends and 5000 of their friends and we headed up to Placerville on Hy. 50 to High Hill Ranch a really cool apple ranch.

"Freshly picked apples are a favorite at High Hill Ranch. The outstanding flavor and snap of our apples, can be compared to none. Guests can dine on everything from hamburgers and barbecued chicken to a large variety of apple goodies. Apple pies, cakes, homemade caramel apples, fresh apple donuts and fritters, ice cold apple juice and wine tasting from an award winning apple wine."

The Apple Hill Growers in the foothills have some good stuff going on, not just apples. Click on the link for more. Definitly worth a trip for fresh produce.

Once we got there it was a big ol' party with 2 bands and food and vendors and a lot of people bikes and everything.

We all had a police escort in the fast lane during the ride. Lots of people on the overpasses waving etc. It was a police memorial ride (the 11th annual), so the theme was a little somber, but the day was fun, as it is intended to be.

After the lunch our riding group headed up 50 to South Lake Tahoe. I took off for a moonlit solo ride after dinner up the west side of the lake to Emerald Bay. The lookout parking lot was empty, and the skies were clear. I shut off the motor and took a seat.

From far above I could see the camp lights along the waterfront and the dinner cruise come into the bay.

A quick note, if you have an RV and go to Tahoe the parking lot there is empty at night, as I left I watched an RV pull in and have dinner. Don't know if you can spend the night, but it sure would be a nice place.

Sunday was the long way home. Break out a map see for yourself.

From South Lake Tahoe we went up to Tahoe City (my favorite place on the lake) then on 80 to 20 west to Nevada City. Then 49 to Auburn. I was going to take 49 farther south but it was so hot, I decided to head west on 80. I coninued to Dixon and got off at 113. I wanted to take the delta roads home but the heat of the valley was melting me so at the 113 12 intersection I turned to head back to 80 instead of going to Rio Vista. I love delta trips, so I owe myself a make good.

It was 80 to 680 to 24 and when the the cool air of the bay hit it felt good.

A good weekend. Lots of eyeball input.
