The New York Times: Record Labels Said to Be Next on Spitzer List for Scrutiny
Here's how it might work, you know I heard about it somewhere or something...
There are 3 players involved. Let's make up names.
1. Big Rick Records (the record label)
2. Super Bitchin' promotions (the indy promoter)
3. Rock Rocker (radio programmer for one or more stations)
1 asks 2 how much the budget would be to "promote" a new song using his contacts in the radio biz. 2 says a nice healthy number, that will be his budget to get the song on the air.
1 says ok, gets the money to 2 and doesn't want to hear any more about it.
2 meets with 3 and (you fill in the blank) then the song gets on the radio.
So have I ever gotten (fill in the blank)? No. It happens waaaay above the on air DJ. You know if it happens at all...
It's mostly a Top 40 kind of thing, not alternative (Live 105) and definitely not a KFOG thing. You don't get (fill in the blank) to play Madeline Peyroux
