This am I saw a post at Macintouch about backup software. this is the post of users comments on favorite backup systems. Some of it is a little too tech for me, but these Mac users seem to like SuperDuper.
I'm gonna give it a try.
Good news: I bought Apple Care coverage so I think I get a new hard disk.
Bad news: Estimates on getting my data off my dead disk run more than I thought. About 3 to 4 thousand. Maybe more.
I'm going to replace but keep the old disk. If I need something from it I'll get it recovered.
So I'm going to get a new hard disk, I bought an external hard drive, I installed clean system software on the external drive so I can use it as my startup in an emergency, and will use it for my backup.
UPDATE: Well if I use Apple Care they will fix my computer. I can take it to an Apple store and they will send it out to be fixed or Apple will send me a box to ship it in. But when I asked if I get the old hard drive back when they fix my computer they said "no".
Yea but...
what about my data, I might want to get it recovered some day?
"no"
my songs, my photos...
"no"
car repair shops give you back old parts they replaced?
"no, you can't get the old disk back"
well so much for Apple Care on this deal I guess...
so it's off to Other World Computing to order my new HD.
