A trip out the gate for Dungeness crab detailed at my KFOG page.
This time of year some of us love to get crabby. The pressure of the traffic, the shopping, the crowds. Sometimes it can all be too much. The solution?
The salty water and Dungeness crabs.
The Wednesday before Thanksgiving I took a crab and dab trip on the New Seeker out of Emeryville. I hooked up with a friend I hadn't seen for a long time. We met about 5:30 am at the Emeryville sportfishing center and rented our deepwater fishing gear, and got on the boat.
The sun was just rising as we passed Alcatraz, and the 20 of us on the party boat were all just waking up. Some of the younger kids were still sleeping as the big boat rolled out under the Golden Gate. Our goal was to get limits of live Dungeness crabs for everybody on board, if we were lucky that would be 6 crabs per person. Then we would find a sandy bottom to fish for sand dabs.
