Saw The Aviator Saturday night. Got there early to get a good seat. Watched 20 minutes of comercials including 2 awful looking NBC shows. Yeech. It makes me wonder what the test audiences didn't like!
After that it was 8 pm and showtime! Well after 17 minutes of trailers it was finally showtime.
About 30 minutes in to the film I fell asleep. Then I woke up. Then I fell asleep again. Then I woke up when the head of TWA ran into Howard at some nightclub with his 14 year old girlfriend. I watched that scene then left with about 1/2 hour to go.
UPDATE: Oh I guess the movie is close to 3 hours, I don't think I made it to the 1/2 way point!
The few airplane scenes were pretty cool but it was a really boring movie.
Big Rick says: don't check it out.
About a week ago I saw House of Flying Daggers.
Lots of action but it is not an action film. It is a love story. It is a beautiful film much of it shot in a bamboo forest that makes the scenery really part of the film and the story. It has some tragic Shakespeare touches and it just looks great. Done by the same director who did Hero and stars the younger female actress from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.
Big Rick says: check it out (but not at the screen at the Piedmont in Oakland. The screen has a few bad spots on it that distract you during the film).
