Now I hear no deal yet for the 2 south bay Infinity stations.
and Radio and Records says:
'Jack' Sails Into Seattle As 'K-Rock' Rolls Away
Infinity's KRQI (96.5 K-Rock) this morning said goodbye to its gold-based Alternative format and became "96.5 Jack FM." KRQI becomes the fourth Infinity station to take on the "playing what we want" nonformat presentation. Among the songs heard in the station's first hour were Pink's "Get the Party Started," Bruce Springsteen's "My Hometown," Patrick Hernandez's "Born to Be Alive," C&C Music Factory's "Gonna Make You Sweat," Pink Floyd's "Run Like Hell" and The Bangles' "Walk Like an Egyptian."
The move ends a two-way battle for Alternative listeners in the Puget Sound region with Entercom's crosstown KNDD (The End), which shifted to a more gold and recurrent music position just before KRQI's debut on Dec. 19, 2003. Before that KRQI spent four years offering "The '80s and more" as KYPT (96.5 The Point). From mid-1994 until December 1999, the 96.5 MHz frequency was home to KYCW (Young Country 96.5)/Seattle. And before that, the station enjoyed an eight-year run as AOR KXRX.

Who in the Bay Area will get Jack-ed?
Rumor is still on 106.9, but it could be (almost) anybody at anytime. I think a Jack in this market (especially if done by Infinity) would go straight after KOIT. They get huge ratings, and Clear Channel already is going at them with Star (or as we oldtimers still call it K101). At Infinity Alice is pretty pop these days, kind of leaning on KOIT, and a "Jack" station with an oldies lean would take a bite out of KFRC.
Is there room at Infinity's group with Alice and KFRC to put in a Jack to take on KOIT and K101?
Maybe they could have 2 stations, Jack and Diane, then just play John Mellencamp.
Or 4 stations; Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice. They could all swap DJ's and music.
Does anyone who reads this care?
