The Gov. veto on same sex marriage

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger announced Wednesday he will veto a bill that would have made California the first state to legalize same-sex marriage through its elected lawmakers.

Schwarzenegger said the legislation, given final approval Tuesday by lawmakers, would conflict with the intent of voters when they approved an initiative five years ago. Proposition 22 was placed on the ballot to prevent California from recognizing same-sex marriages performed in other states or countries.

Probably the "legal" thing to do, but (I don't think) the right thing to do. He probably has to do the legal thing, don't know if he wants to make it happen or not. It will be a slow process to get same sex marriage to happen, but it will. The fact that it got to the governors desk is a huge step. It will help people in the state accept it. It will happen. Prop 22 was 5 years ago. Might not pass today.

I think I blogged this before, but hey to me there is no reason gay people shouldn't have a civil marriage. If you and your church don't want them to get married at your church, well that's fine by me too.
