The big ESPN B.A.S.S. Elite tournament wrapped up Sunday. The wind did pick up Sunday, and the pressure from all the boats made the bite pretty tough on the 4th day, but the all time record was set twice, first by local guy Skeet Reese, then by the winner Steve Kennedy. Skeet weighed in 20 fish over 4 days (5 fish per day limit) for 177.6 pounds to be the first to break the record, then Kennedy had a huge final bag of 32.10 to claim the record and the win.
For first place he won 110,000 and Skeet took home 30,000.
7 of the final 12 that made the cut weighed in a total over 100 pounds. That's like throwing 10 no hitters in a row, or getting a grand slam in every at bat in a game. Guys have cuts and scars on their hands from catching so many fish. 30, 40, 50 and more fish were caught by these guys each day!
Man it was crazy. It really couldn't have been much of a better showing for Northern California's Clear Lake. It is a big, healthy body of water that is full of fish, birds, and now has now set a new record to prove it.
108 B.A.S.S. Elite series anglers started on Thursday and Friday. The top 50 fished on Saturday, then only 12 made the cut and fished on Sunday. Here's the final (huge) numbers.
