I've had some hillclimb goals for my bicycle riding adventures.
One was to climb Redwood from Pinehurst to Skyline. I can do that.
Two was to climb Snake from Mountain to Skyline. I can do that.
Three was to climb Grass Valley from the Oakland Zoo to Skyline. I can do that.
Four was the climbs on the loop that starts at Redwood ad Skyline, climb up Skyline to the Chabot Observatory, along Skyline, down Pinehurst. Then up the Moraga side of Pinehurst to Redwood and up to Skyline. That's a very do-able and fun ride for me now. The run along the back side of Pinehurst past Canyon in the redwoods is pretty spectacular.
Not so pretty or fun was today's ride.
The most intimidating climb on my list was the climb up Keller from Mountain to Skyline. It is under 2 miles, but unlike Snake, a winding road up a steep hill, Keller is pretty much straight up. It does have a few downhills, but it climbs about 700 feet in 1.8 miles.
Today I did it non stop. First time ever. I rode about as slow as you can ride a bike but didn't stop. Man it was BRUTAL!
My legs are burnin'...
Next on my list, climb the other side of Redwood from 580 to Skyline.
That's pretty tough. I don't think I'm there yet, but I'll try it soon.
