But not in a good way. The company developing Oak Knoll hired them do clear some land and well they were financed by Lehman and well POOF!
I see these goats all the time in the Oakland hills. They set up for a few days and clear land for the park district and anyone else that hires them. It is pretty cool to see.
They fence in a big area and hundreds of goats munch away for a few days. There is a goat herder that lives on site in a trailer, and a dog or 2 to watch over them. Some goof shot a couple of them a year or so ago. Freakin' nutty East Oakland I tell ya... (No it wasn't me!)
Here's a photo I took of them working on a hill next to where I mountain bike. Check out the Big Boss Man standing on the rock making sure things stay all goat like and proper.
Goat Owners Get Left High and Dry by Lehman - WSJ.com: "A Lehman-financed venture owes a company called Goats R Us about $53,000. The goats performed fire-prevention by munching shrubs and grass on a property the venture owns in Oakland, Calif.
There's little hope now that the bill will be paid, and that makes Terri Oyarzun, the founder of Goats R Us, bleating mad. She says she has had to put off buying a new truck to transport the goats, and she can't hire new herders. 'This is not how I operate my business,' she says."
