Clear Lake Observer - News

Motorists will be able to take a self-guided tour of Lake County landmarks, thanks to a grant from the U.S. Forest Service.

The $25,000 grant will purchase nine radio transmitters, to be installed at locations around Lake County. Lake County museums, in Lakeport and Lower Lake, will each purchase a transmitter as well, for a total of 11 transmitters.

'The purpose of the grant is to take people around the lake and expose them to our recreational, historic, cultural and wildlife resources,' said Jacqueline Armstrong, public services analyst with the Lake County Public Services Department.

From a distance of about 300 feet, motorists will be able to tune their radios to the transmitters' broadcasting frequency and hear a recorded message, on continuous loop, describing the landmark in question.
