kewl small cars

Tonight coming home from work I saw an old Volkswagen 411 know as a Type 4. A good old air cooled VW. Common back in the day, but now they stand out. Until I saw this one tonight I had kind of forgotten about the 411. It was in nice shape, pretty stock looking.

I learned to drive in an old Beetle. I had a few, one was a pretty hot 1776 cc dual carb. Loud, and proud it was.

There are some awesome small cars out there now.

Ford has an amazing SVT Focus. The Subaru WRX STi is a hot version of the cool WRX. The big rival of the STi is the Mitsubishi Evo. Read about the STi vs EVO shootout here.

Oh yes the Mini is nice, but could use more motor, and the auto is awful!

The new Auto Week has details on an updated version of one of my favorite cars of all time.

The 80's era VW GTi. Did you ever have one? If you did or know somebody who did they probably did some hop up work to it. Suspension, wheels, maybe an exhaust or something. They had a classic boxy look and were cheap, fun and even stock had pretty good performance and were a blast to drive. You could get it to 3 wheel if you went around a tight turn fast enough. The inside rear wheel would be off the ground. Big grins. Hey that makes for a classic in my book.

The new R32 is the new version of the GTi. 240 horsepower and VW's 4Motion, dual exhaust, 18 inch hoops and big brakes, big anti roll bars etc. It is like a hot rodders list of must haves. Wicked cool.

Check out the euro promo video of the VW R32 GTi.
