Good Read on the new unlimited data phone plans here
I don't use much data. I am sure many people use less but many use more. According to this article at Nerd Wallet people use between 2 and 3GB per month. As you can see my cell data runs well under 1GB per month. With wifi it is more but I don't really use my phone much.
How do I keep it so low? Here's my secret: I turn my phone off! OK I know not everyone can do that but it is a sure way to cut down on data. (and enjoy the real world more)
Sometimes I'll turn off just my cell data so people can still get in touch with me but my phone won't be getting data for who knows what.
The upside of this is I get to pay less for my plan. I have used a few different companies and for a few years now I use Consumer Cellular a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) that resells service from AT&T and T-Mobile.
I pay about $35 for the plan I have and I really like their service and coverage. They market to AARP members and older adults, but anyone can sign up and you can probably bring your own phone.
I do have a tablet but it is an Amazon Kindle and it is just wifi. I can do email, web stuff, social media, watch movies and everything else I do so no need for anything else in the world I live in.
from Wikipedia
In 2017, Consumer Cellular duplicated its highest ever rating from Consumer Reports, scoring 89 out of 100. The company earned the top spot in the magazine’s customer survey for the 6th time in 7 years.
In 2016 Consumer Cellular received the highest overall satisfaction rating in the mobile carrier category of PC Magazine’s 29th annual Readers' Choice Awards survey, earning the top designation of Readers’ Choice in the category, the same award that was given in 2014 and 2015. Survey findings also highlight that Consumer Cellular customers are more likely to recommend the carrier than customers from any other mobile carrier in the United States
