Paddle to Athens
Lake Merritt, located in downtown Oakland, California, will host the US Canoe and Kayak National Sprint Championships on August 5 - 9, 2003, for the first time. However, paddle sports are not novelty events to the Bay Area, or Lake Merritt. There are many Sea Kayak and Outrigger races in the Bay, while rowing, paddling's "sister" sport, has held many events on lake Merritt, including National Championships and an annual club event.
