Apple has new stuff out. I'm all Macintosh since the Mac Plus, I'm a PC nitwit who always asks my PC using friends how to do stuff.
So anyway I guess at some point I bought something from this company called OWC. I get a spiffy newsletter from them. It's pretty good, but maybe some of it is a little above my head.
In the new newsletter they explain the Macintosh products.
Big Rick says: get an iBook. Love mine. Here is some of the text of the OWC newsletter:
"First off, we've got the eMac G4 now bumped up from 1GHz to a G4/1.25GHz processor.
As it still costs the same $799 as the 1GHz before it, not a bad deal at all - we've already got one here for our normal compatibility testing + to soon be added to our upgrade benchmark comparisons.
Just remember, a fast processor is only a part of the equation - as our
benchmarks reveal. As the eMac G4s lack cache beyond the 256K L2 on-chip -
as well as other differences in overall architecture - they are not as fast
as a a same speed (upgraded or stock) PowerMac G4. It's a great deal all in
all, just remember it's not got the Power of a PowerMac. :)
Update:
oops they sent an update in a followup email:
"Incorrectly it was stated that there was only 256K L2 On-chip, 512K On-Chip
L2 Cache is the correct specification."
Been waiting to buy a new PowerBook or iBook? The waiting has paid off as the new speed
bumped models are now released! What's more? They have faster video, faster
processors, and a better cost value that what they replaced. It's been the
Apple norm, bump up the top end model with a new top speed, but with a new
price lower than the top end model before it.
We go from PowerBook G4s in models running 1.0GHz to 1.33GHz and ranging from $1599-$2899, to the new line that has offers 1.33GHz to 1.5GHz priced $1599-2799.
How about that, a huge value boost to the 'lowend', especially taking in to account that all
the base models start have the same 1.33GHz processor only the $2899 top end
model offered from before.
The iBook G4 lineup Models kept the same price points as before ($1299-$1499), but now for same dollars that got you base 800MHz and 933MHZ gets you 1GHz, and 1GHz is bumped to 1.2GHz."
uhh "256K L2 on-chip" say what now?
