If you use Yahoo Photos they are holding your full size photos hostage. I found this out a few days ago as I tried to download my photos from My Yahoo photo section. I can't.
here is the first post on the matter
I did mention this on my KFOG radio show a few times. Today in my KFOG email I got this from a Yahoo PR person:
-----
Hi Rick,
Some colleagues of mine advised me that you addressed Yahoo! Photos on your show yesterday - and have some questions and concerns about the service.
I'd really like to learn more about your concerns and see how I can help answer any questions.
Please feel free to email or call me directly.
Thanks,
Terrell

my reply:
yea...give my photos back, but I know you're not going to.
from an email I sent to friends:
I thought I'd download my full size photos from Yahoo and put them on my iBook. I mean they are mine...
Well today I couldn't see a way to do that. I could save the single photo (after the thumbnail click) but that wasn't my fullsize photo I had uploaded. I could still upload a new photo, print, delete, and move photos around, but I didn't see how to download my full size photo. I then clicked on the Help link and saw this:
-----
Can I download and save my photos back to my hard drive?
Yes. You can download photos back to your hard drive in several ways:
You can click on the "Download" button when viewing the screen-sized image.
Or you can download photos by right-clicking with your mouse and selecting "Save As." Select the directory to download the photo into, and click "Save."
Note: Only SBC Yahoo! or BT Yahoo! users can download their original, high-resolution photos that they uploaded to their Yahoo! Photos accounts. To do this, go to the Photo Detail page and click the "Download" button.
-----
Then I quoted the rest of my first post
I also sent an email to Yahoo support about it.
-----
Subject: I want my full size photos!
When did you guys start to hold them hostage?
When was the email sent out about this change?
This really sucks. They are my photos!

Here is their reply, note the numbers in the subject. They added it. Must some kind of auto reply text generated by my words in my message. "Norman" is probably a Dell.

Hello,
Thank you for writing to Yahoo! Photos.
We apologize for the inconvenience the changes in Yahoo! Photos may have
caused you. The good news is that Yahoo! Photos now offers unlimited
storage, so you can upload, share and store as many photos as you'd
like. However, we no longer offer the ability to view or download the
original, high-resolution versions of your online photos. Please note
that if you order prints or other photo merchandise online, we will use
the high resolution version of your photo to fulfill your order. Please
see the Yahoo! Photos Terms of Service for more information:
http://docs.yahoo.com/info/terms/
Subscribers of SBC Yahoo!, BT Yahoo! or Yahoo! Plus services may still
access Yahoo! Photos online in full resolution. You can visit
http://plus.yahoo.com/welcome for more information about Yahoo! Plus, http://sbc.yahoo.com for more
information about SBC Yahoo! and http://bt.yahoo.com for more information about BT Yahoo (UK only)!
Thank you again for contacting Yahoo! Customer Care.
Regards,
Norman

Me too. Just let me have my photos back please.
I checked the terms of service and saw this:
6. MEMBER CONDUCT
You understand that all information, data, text, software, music, sound,
photographs, graphics, video, messages or other materials ("Content"),
whether publicly posted or privately transmitted, are the sole
responsibility of the person from which such Content originated. This
means that you, and not Yahoo!, are entirely responsible for all Content
that you upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise make available via the
Service. Yahoo! does not control the Content posted via the Service and,
as such, does not guarantee the accuracy, integrity or quality of such
Content.
"Yahoo! does not control the Content posted via the Service"
So my photos are my responsibility. Yahoo does not control the content.
Fine I want them back, that's all.
Does Yahoo plan to keep other files I have there?

I'll post what response I get.
No way do I think David Filo and Jerry Yang, founders of Yahoo, could have decided this was a good idea. Some Sh*t head in accounting and or marketing came up with this.
Yo Jerry Yo David wasup wit dis?
Your post answered my question on publishing Yahoo! Photos to my blog. Thanks. Will move to Plan B.
ReplyDeleteHave you heard back from yahoo photos. I just realized the change now and am pissed. - jamesl1969@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteThey did tell me if you are a member of "Yahoo Plus" you can download your original full size photos. I think you can get a free trial for 30 days, download your photos, then cancel.

What a crap move by Yahoo...
I joined Yahoo Plus and was able to get the photos back. Since there is a 30 day free trial, I am going to cancel and not be charged.
ReplyDeleteF*CKED UP YAHOO CEO
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that my (emphasis: MY!!!) full-size photos are being used to blackmail me!
This means tat Yahoo cannot be trusted anymore.
If they were ethical, and had only worried about how our pictures were clogging up their server space (sarcasm here), they will at least have an option somewhere that says, "Click here to download and remove all full size photos from Yahoo".
Any ideas how I can download them and fcuk off with yahoo forever without resorting to signing for the Plus trial?
A VERY IRRITATED USER
I am so pissed right now. I backed up my photos to Yahoo! thinking it'd be convient. Now I need my photos back ASAP, but I need to be an SBC, BT, or a Plus user! None of those services work in my area and their free trial for Plus is "inconviently" passed. I need my photos! Ahh!!!
