FMQB says:
Infinity Buys KEAR in San Francisco
April 18, 2005
Infinity Radio has announced the purchase of KEAR-FM in San Francisco from Family Stations, Inc. This follows the March deal in which Family Stations acquired KFRC-AM from Infinity. The acquisition of KEAR now brings the number of Infinity stations in the market to six, including, KCBS-AM, KFRC-FM, KYCY-AM, KITS-FM and KLLC-FM. Infinity has also announced its intention to sell San Jose stations KBAY-FM and KEZR-FM.
"The acquisition of KEAR-FM, coupled with the sale of KBAY and KEZR, strongly enhance our position in San Francisco, the fourth largest radio market in the United States," said Infinity Chairman and CEO Joel Hollander. "This move is consistent with our strategy of concentrating on markets where we generate the most revenue and cash flow."
These transactions are subject to regulatory approvals and are expected to close later this year.

So now what?
Infinity had a nice little deal with Family Stations Inc, they got KFRC AM 610, and Infinity got a big FM signal with 106.9 the current KEAR.
A sale doesn't always mean a format change, but in this case it will. KFRC AM will become a "Christian" station, maybe music, maybe talk, and what about Infinity's new FM? Dunno. Try to think of a format they can switch to that has an opening in the Bay Area, and won't hurt one of their other stations? Hmm hard to figure out. Maybe since they say they will sell off KEZR Mix 106 in the south bay, they would move that format to the new signal. Makes sense to me. Mix is doing well, (as far as I know) and KOIT just gets HUGE ratings with the format in SF. A little competition, and maybe a little more hip version of KOIT would be a good move.
And my buddy Raffi would keep his job!
