This is one of the best CD's ever. Insanely creative and an underground classic. Never had a radio hit, but it is so well put together with samples, beats, and ideas that it just flat out works. I've been using it as beds on my radio show since it came out. I have owned 3 or 4 copies of "Endtroducing" over the years, lost some, some got loaned out to friends and never came back. When Steve Masters and I did a Sunday night show "Transmitter Adjustments" we played the crap out of "Midnight In A Perfect World".
It is one of my favorites ever by anybody any style of music.
Now Billboard says there is a new version:
DJ Shadow Expands 'Endtroducing'
"Nearly a decade since its release, "Endtroducing..." remains a watershed of DJ culture thanks to its unique blend of samples from obscure vinyl albums, propulsive beats and moody atmospherics. The set has sold 290,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan."
and there is a book about Endtroducing coming soon...
Not bad for a kid from Hayward, and Davis, CA
DJ Shadow's web page has lots of stuff to listen to if you are unfamiliar, but his site didn't play nice with Firefox and my Mac.
Amazon link and Wikipedia bio
Yea! DJ Shadow is awesome-cool rockalicious!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if it's true or not, but apparently he asked folks to bring their favorite albums to his concert and he got up on 5 turntables and mixed up a storm on the spot.
Hey Rick. Love the album, too. Shadow is South Bay, born in San Jose before splitting for Davis. We claim him. Hayward can claim someone else.
ReplyDeleteKFOG looks good in the latest book. Congrats!
