Largest San Quentin riot since 1982 prompts prison-wide lockdown

Largest San Quentin riot since 1982 prompts prison-wide lockdown: "The largest riot at San Quentin State Prison since 1982 left 42 inmates injured Monday, three of them with wounds serious enough to send them to outside hospitals, authorities said.

The fight broke out between white and Hispanic inmates at about 8:40 a.m. in a medium security dormitory-style unit that houses roughly 900 prisoners, said Vernell Crittendon, public information officer for San Quentin State Prison"

I've know guards at San Quentin. It is not a job for everyboody. I heard some crazy stories.

From time to time guards will search a cell looking for weapons. A friend told me about how they would be hidden. Once they searched a cell and found nothing. One of the guards noticed something on the wall of the cell that looked strange. He started to scratch at it and the old San Quentin wall was starting to reveal a blade. The inmate had made or gotten a blade, scratched the wall until he could put the blade in the wall. Then they mixed toothpaste with some dirt on the floor to cover it up and match the rest of the wall. He said you could barely see it.

Hey it is just part of their day.
