Arriving 1st Quarter 2006

- Below is the most recent information on the Fit by Honda's CEO:

"Honda will introduce the fuel efficient Fit as an entry level model in North America. Fit models manufactured in Brazil will be introduced to Mexico in October of this year, and the Japan-made Fit will be introduced to the U.S. and Canada next spring. Honda will further expand its product lineup in order to respond to increasing customer demands for vehicles with high fuel efficiency." - Takeo Fukui, President and CEO

The car is expected to be in the $12,000 price range to appeal younger buyers. It will keep with the companies traits of dependability, reliability, quality, incredible value and fun to drive character. When we last heard current plans were to import the car but the East Liberty Plant in Ohio can easily begin production if additional units are needed.

I'd love to get one, none of the techno blobby blobby of a hybrid, and great mileage. Those cars are too complicated, too much to go wrong, and their real world mpg isn't nearly what they get rated for especially if you travel on hills.

But will you actually see such efficiency in your hybrid?

Most likely not, because the EPA uses a very controlled laboratory environment that is almost never duplicated by an individual's driving habits. Even if you drive like there's an egg between your foot and the accelerator, it's unlikely you'll regularly see fuel mileage as high as the government ratings on any vehicle, hybrid or not.

Consumer Reports recently tested the Honda Accord V6 Hybrid, which the EPA says should be capable of a maximum of 37 mpg and 32 mpg in combined city/highway driving.

But Consumer Reports found that in its regular driving cycle it could do no better than 25 mpg on average in its Accord Hybrid, just 2 mpg better than a test of a gasoline-only V6 Accord.

A road test that Bankrate did on an Accord Hybrid six months ago resulted in an average of about 28 mpg, a result of a large percentage of highway miles in the test.

Similar published tests of other hybrids show that while they get better fuel mileage than their gasoline counterparts, it's rarely going to be as high as the government sticker on the window says.

Since the Fit is a Honda it will work really well.

The only question is... will I Fit?!

In the UK it is called the Jazz. Here's Honda's Jazz web page with specs and reviews and more.
