Anchorage KY Fire dept blog: Katrina Relief

Anchorage Katrina Relief:

"Spent the last two days walking on the beach and coastal areas of Gulfport and Biloxi talking with people who have lost everything. They almost always ask me to sit down with them in a busted chair or piece of broken furniture and offer me a cold bottle of water, the only thing that is plentiful down here. They then each proceed to tell me their story. All too often the story is the same as their neighbor's but we still sit and listen. It seems they just want to talk and have someone to listen. The devastation down here, especially in Biloxi is unimagineable. There are large sections of town that look and smell like third world countries. Entire streets are destoyed and dogs abandoned by their owners are wondering the streets in packs. People are living in houses without roofs and in some cases walls. The walls are filled from to ceiling with black mold as is most of the furniture. Again, the smells are horrible."
