respect the tamale

1) it's like a powerbar, carbs, protein, all in a wrapper
2) they (should) taste great
3) they can be whatever you want (chicken, pork, shrimp etc)
4) they take forever to make!

I asked someone at work about making them, and mentioned how long it takes, the masa tamale dough, cooking the meat, etc. She said next time tell her, she gets good pre made masa tamale dough at her local mexican grocery store. Ahh cool.

She makes 800(!) at the holidays.

So Friday she brought me 2 lbs of dough, I bbq'ed a chicken Sunday and today I made a dozen. Taste test update soon!

Taste test update:

Mmm warm, chewy wrapped bbq chicken. I think tamales taste better after they are steamed (to reheat) for the second time. They tasted great, the simple filling was just chicken with a dab or 2 of bbq sauce. Some warmed salsa was served on the side. It was a pretty simple batch this time. Maybe next time I'll get a little more tamale crazy.
