fishing rod part 2

I woke up sick today, sore throat and fever. So I'm at home.

So I did some more work on the fishing rod. Here's the first post about it.

The first thing you have to do is ream out the cork to fit on the blank. I did that yesterday.

Today I glued on the cork, built up the blank for the reel seat, glued that on then the last part of the cork, the foregrip.

Parts used 3 cork pieces and a reel seat. The rod is a split rear grip meaning there is a small cork piece at end, then blank rod and a bidder cork piece where your hand goes, the reel seat and a small cork foregrip. Cost was about 14 dollars.

I used some 2 part rod glue, a small measuring cup, some alcohol (not for me but to clean with!) and coffee filters. They work better than paper towels and are cheap. I use them while I am gluing on the various parts to clean up the glue that squeezes out.

I used masking tape to build up the blank where the reel seat sits. Just a few times around the blank so the seat contacts the tape is all you need, don't make it too loose, don't make it too tight, let some glue get in there.

Here's some photos.

The blank on my rod building stand.

Here is how it will look when everything is glued on. I changed the bottom cork to a button so that will be a little different. With this you can see how a "split rear grip" is set up.

Here is the prep for the reel seat using masking tape.

That's it for now. Next step wrapping the guides. Woo hoo!
