Radio rumor is that No Name is out on the Alice morning show. He's a good buddy, and he did a great job at Alice, was fun to work with at Live 105, and was a ball of fire with that wild KOME crew He and I get together now and then, we're pretty into shotgun sports, skeet and trap.
Radio is too limiting for his talents. So yep just like the "No Name" character of the old western movies that quietly rides outta town... he's outta there!
Here's the deal:
He's headed to LA to work for ESPN 2 hosting a weekly tv show covering the extreme fighting UFC type stuff. It'll be an "on the road" show. He'll ride his Harley around the country covering matches, training with the fighters etc. He will be covering and participating in the matches on the undercard.
It might also be a wrestling news show where he would also wrestle in some matches with WWE or TNA. ESPN likes it because they are just full of the mainstream sports stuff except for the X Games. They are pretty boring unless you want to know EVERYTHING about baseball or basketball. They need some exposure to this new UFC type fight scene that is blowing up all over the world.
The idea came to him when we were powerlifting and boxing at "The Secret Homeboy Gym" out in Oakland last year. It is near the 880 recording studios, but I can't tell you where. :)
He told me he didn't want to have his kids and do a radio show and "be a soft fat bastard the rest of my life." I said hey if you just do radio that what's happens. So he decided to propose this show to ESPN, Fox Sports etc. The deal is he works out with the fighters and covers their match as well. He will travel around the country on his Harley, (he said even in winter) so he can stop by in gyms and meet the real people, fighters and fans. Maybe cover some "outlaw" boxing matches, you know Fight Club type stuff.
They have shot some stuff already, the show should debut this fall. I think it's on ESPN2 but I'm not sure. I don't think this was supposed to be announced yet, about him leaving the Alice morning show, but it happens.
His old radio buddy Carson Daley is the producer of the show.
Awesome idea! Go No Name!
