Sunday bike ride, football, racing, and Tri Tip

What a day!

I started about 9 am with some home roasted coffee and a few laps of the Italian F1 GP. Ohh, it was raining, sure to be drama. I caught the start having coffee and breakfast.

Soon I filled up my drink backpack (it's not a Camelback brand but that's what it is) to do a bike ride. Since I started riding bicycles in the Oakland hills I always wanted to do a big loop in the hills.

I decided today was the day. I started at Redwood and Skyline and headed north. It is a big climb (for me) to the Observatory but after that is is a nice coast down with great views. I got to Pinehurst and was feeling pretty good so I turned right and went down hill. That meant that I would end up having to climb Pinehurst from the Moraga side to Redwood, then up Redwood to Skyline.

Oh well...

Pinehurst was beautiful. Lots of redwood trees on a winding road that doesn't see much traffic. I rode past the town of Canyon that I think most people have no idea exists, and the people that live there don't mind that at all.

Saw a group of MG's and MGA's winding up as I was winding down. It reminded me of the days when I had a 1969 Sprite, what a fun car for a Sunday drive.

I climbed up and over Pinehurst to Redwood, took a break and slowly made my way back to Skyline.

My key to doing it was to coast when I could, and save as much pedaling energy for the climbs. It worked, and while I guess a little under 2 hours is about as slow as the 15 or so miles can be done, hey I did it!

I brought a Sony Sports Walkman with me and heard a great Raider game (meaning a win), then came home and watched the 49ers beat a really good Seattle team at home in overtime.

I finished watching the F1 race, it was good, drama to the end, and also watched the Moto GP from Indy. Yea motorcycle racing! It rained the whole time, but was still fun to watch. Next year I'll go.

Then NHRA drag racing was on. Awesome I love drag racing.

The night finished off with an injected rubbed seared smoked Tri Tip.

I injected it with Cajun Injector Honey Bacon sauce. Then rubbed it with Gates Sweet and Mild. It got a quick super high heat searing in my cast iron pan, and then it went on the Big Green Egg with oak chunks that had been soaked in red wine.

It cooked at 375 for about 50 minutes, and there was smoke coming out of the Egg the whole time.

It came off and rested. I took some sliced mushrooms and put them in a skillet with some olive oil from the Napa Valley Olive Oil Company. That's good stuff right there.

I've cooked a lot of tri tip over the years, this one was the best ever. That oak wood and injector stuff were magic.

Now I'm watching a new show on Fox, "Fringe" so far so good.

That's a damn good Sunday.
