I think we ended up giving them about 1500 dollars. :)
The Hoo were great. Their set ended just as the main event of the Pay Per View boxing match Pacquiao v Marquez was about to start in another part of Rickys. There were lots of people there for the fight only, they paid a door charge the F1 party people didn't.
So then the fight (wow it was good, can't wait to see the replay) ended just before 9pm when the SpeedTV broadcast started. People ordered food and got settled and the race kicked off at 9:30.
Perfect timing, if not a perfect race, less than 1/2 the cars finished, but it made for lots of drama.
Ricky of Rickys dropped in a big fat check for the cause and people got great deals. Someone even heard about the event on KFOG and dropped off a gift certificate for a 90 minute hot stone message! It ended up being one of the most popular items of the night.
Biggest thanks go out to Terry Griffin of Griffin Motorwerke in Berkeley. He got together the amazing silent auction items and donated photos from his own collection and items from his accessory shop. Not only that but many items had a high bid from his customers knowing a good cause and a good deal.
Terry is also a big part of a group that has been doing F1 race day viewing parties and more (shop tours, benefits, etc) for a few years now. You can find out about their events at the website for the San Francisco Formula One group www.sff1.com. They are THE group for local F1 fans to connect with each other ad also donated items for the benefit.
So thanks to everyone involved, and if you want to know more and donate some money to help out the Oakland Firefighters Random Acts of Kindness look around the website here.
